P.A.S.S. Volunteer Training this Sat. & Next Tuesday

The PASS program (Positive Alternatives to Shelter Surrender) aims to help owners find ways to not relinquish their pets to the shelter. Keeping animals in homes saves valuable shelter space and saves lives. As owner-surrenders enter the shelter, we need volunteers ready to discuss options. For almost every scenario there is a positive alternative. Most often, the owners are glad for the help and very happy to keep their pets.

Sat. Nov. 12 -9:45a and Tues. Nov. 16 -10a we will have training and shadowing for volunteers interested in this vital and rewarding work.

Mitzi, a Spayed 2 year-old Shih Tzu/Cocker Spaniel Mix Needs a Home

Mitzi was found wandering with a feral cat colony. She was all matted and filthy until the colony caretaker took her in, cleaned her up, & got her spayed. She is SO GRATEFUL and extremely sweet and affectionate. Mitzi needs a foster or forever home.

There is a $60 adoption fee and adoption application is required.

Please contact pass (at) caabr (dot) org to inquire about Mitzi.

Two-year-old German Shepherd Mix, "Bear", Needs a Home.

Meet Bear.

Bear was adopted a year ago from an abusive situation. So he's been through a lot already.

He thought he had finally found his forever home, until his family drove him to the city pound. They felt that he would have a better life with another family and didn't know the possible fate he'd endure if they left him. After talking with P.A.S.S. volunteers, his family, now educated to what could happen to him in the open-intake, short on space shelter, agreed to keep him and allow us to find him a home.

See, the thing is, Bear is very loved by his current family, but because their lives have grown so busy, he's left alone all day and has started chewing his fur off because of his anxiety.

From his owner:

"Bear is a sweet energetic dog. He thinks he is king of the couches and loves to push people off the couch if he thinks he deserves [it]. He does have abandonment issues due to the fact that he was abused before. He loves beggin strips or any treats that you will give him. He loves to play and give kisses. He does have a tiger toy that he loves to chew on. He sleeps on the floor on a blanket or on the couch. He is potty trained and needs some work on taking him for walks. He thinks he is suppose to drag you along but with a little care and determination he will be a great dog. He is such a sweetheart. He is fine with cats and other dogs. He has had all of his shots but is heart worm positive but it is very low and will go away soon. He isn't very noisy unless he wants attention or wants to go outside."

They know that he'd make an unbelievable pet for a family that will make time for him to be part of their lives and care for him just like they care for every other member of their family. Bear deserves this.

Perhaps the third home will be the charm?
